The Shelter Background
Before founding Delosperros, Eva spent years as an adoption counselor at the San Diego Humane Society, helping prospective adopters find dogs that fit their homes, routines, and experience level. That work showed her how often people chose with their hearts first and only later realized the match was not sustainable.
She saw that even well-meaning owners can become overwhelmed when a dog’s energy, needs, or temperament do not fit real life. That experience shaped Delosperros’ approach: thoughtful matching based on long-term compatibility, not just a first impression.
Frio’s Story
The mission became personal through Eva’s experience with Frio, a dog who had already been adopted and returned more than once. He also had a bite on his record, which meant that another return could have put his future at serious risk. Eva understood what repeated returns can do to a dog: each one makes stability harder, trust harder, and the chances of a safe, lasting placement smaller.
Taking Frio in deepened what she had already learned through shelter work. The goal is not to find a perfect dog on paper. It is to help people choose a dog they can genuinely understand, support, and live well with over time. That belief remains at the heart of Delosperros today.
